HOMOCYSTEINE
- Use: Homocysteine has been shown to be an independent risk factor for the premature development of coronary artery disease and thrombosis. This test is intended for use in screening individuals for developing heart disease and/or stroke.
- It is notable that high homocysteine increases risk of Dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
- Normal range is 5.0 –15.0 µmol/L; recommended level is less than 7.0.
- Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably.
