General Questions

1I don't live in the United States, can I still order tests?
You can order our tests from virtually anywhere in the world. Call or email us to place an order.
2Do I need a prescription from my doctor to order a blood test?
No. Unless you are filing an insurance reimbursement claim, you do not need a prescription to order our tests. Our triple Board Certified, licensed pathologist will write the order for your test/s as required by state laws. However, she cannot be involved with an insurance claim because you are not a patient of hers. If you are planning to file an insurance claim, please read the information under insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.
3Where do I go to have my blood drawn?
You may go anywhere you choose. Please verify that the facility will draw the blood for an outside laboratory. Locate one of the following:
  • Hospital Outpatient Laboratory
  • Your own doctor’s office
  • Phlebotomy service
  • Blood Drawing site
If you can’t find a drawing site near you, contact our office, we may be able to help you locate one. ` Please note that there is an extra charge for the blood drawing service, which you have to pay to the drawing facility.
4What do I need to bring with me to the blood drawing facility on the day of the draw?
Everything that was sent to you with the test kit, except for your credit card receipt. If you are having the HCG urine test (included with the Cancer andLongevity profiles), make sure to collect and transfer your first morning urine to the “urine vial” provided with your kit and bring it with you.

Verify that it will reach us within 7 business days of the date of draw. Do not ship whole blood. Serum and urine only please.
If you are not using the vials with preservative and/or are having a CBC Complete Blood Count test, the samples must be shipped overnight.
7When do I get my test results?
  • We set up for testing every Wednesday. If we receive your specimen by the end of the day Tuesday, the test/s will be run and the results reported on Friday of that week. If your specimen arrives after the deadline, it will be frozen and run the following Wednesday.
  • Result reports are mailed out on Fridays via USPS First Class Mail.
  • Please note that if the prescription for your test/s was written by your own doctor, then by law, we can only release the results to the ordering physician, and s/he needs to authorize their release to you. If our staff doctor ordered the test/s, the authorization is automatic.
  • These results will indicate if there are any abnormalities. In case of abnormal results, you should make sure to show them to your personal physician, who can determine if you have any serious problems and what you can do about them. You can also call and discuss your results with Dr. E. K. Schandl.
8My test/s were ordered by my doctor. Can I get a copy of the results?
You certainly can, please ask your ordering doctor to provide us with a written authorization to release a copy to you.
9I have abnormal results, what do they mean?
  • Call for a free 15 – 20 minutes professional test interpretation by phone.
  • You may wish to schedule a Nutritional/Biochemical Evaluation and Metabolic Program by Dr. Schandl based upon your test results and your individual circumstances by calling 214-392-8888
10How often should I repeat these tests?
Retesting recommendations are based on your individual results and your treatment, please check with the health care professional who ordered or recommended that you ordered the test/s. If you ordered the test/s through our staff doctor, you may ask Dr. Schandl's recommendation.
11What is the most comprehensive profile you have?
The Longevity Profile© is our most comprehensive work-up. What we call, "a biochemical full body scan without the radiation exposure". Composed of over 60 tests; it includes the full Cancer Profile ©, sex hormones, PTH, organ enzymes, and growth hormone(IGF-1). In addition, it evaluates adrenal stress with a comparison of the morning and afternoon levels, cardiac and stroke risk markers, lipid profile, sugar, electrolytes, minerals, and assesses your white cells, red cells, platelets, etc. It is recommended for the early detection and prevention of diseases like cancer, heart and other vital organs function conditions, hormonal imbalance, adrenal stress, etc., years before a potential disease manifestation.
12What is the difference between the Longevity Profile© and the Cancer or CA Profile©?
The Longevity Profile © includes all the tests listed above, the CA Profile © is part of it. The Cancer Profile © is for the early detection, prevention, and therapy monitoring of cancer only, and includes 8 tests: HCG x3, PHI, CEA, TSH, GGTP and DHEA-S.
13What is the difference between the Navarro test and your HCG Urine test?
Dr. Navarro was the first individual testing for cancer with his HCG Urine test and we appreciate his pioneering work. However, his technology is much outdated and cannot distinguish between HCG, TSH, FSH, and LH. Therefore, the results may reflect the sum of all those four hormones in the urine. The Navarro normal results are below 50,000 mIU. The test requires a special treatment where the patient mixes the urine with acetone and alcohol and allows it to stand in the refrigerator for 2 hours; then has to filter the mixture using a coffee filter. The cost of the test is paid to an individual in Illinois, U.S.A., while the sample in the coffee filter is shipped to the Philippines for testing.

Our HCG Urine Quantitative test is specific for the HCG hormone, (no other hormone). This is to say, unlike the Navarro test, there is no cross reactivity with TSH, FSH, and LH hormones. Our normal results are less than 1.0 mIU/mL, i.e., some 50,000 times more sensitive than the Navarro test. All that is required for the collection is a small sample of the first morning urine. It is paid to and shipped to us, American Metabolic Laboratories, a COLA & CLIA certified, Florida state licensed laboratory in the U.S.A.

*Experts recommend 2 technologically different HCG tests performed to reduce, if not eliminate false positives. The results of one test generally confirms the validity of the other. Our laboratory offers three different methodologies: The urine, and two serum methods (please read more)
14Do Insurance companies, Medicare or Medicaid pay for these tests?
  • American Metabolic Laboratories are not in network with any insurance company. Check with your insurance provider to find out your coverage for an out-of-network testing facility.
  • You may be able to file an insurance claim for reimbursement. Or we can file it for you for a nominal fee
  • If you’re planning to file a reimbursement claim, ask your insurance company if they require an order from your M.D. or D.O. physician. In such a case, you will need to request the prescription from your doctor before placing the test order. A copy may be mailed or faxed to our office at 214-937-3687.

Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted by our laboratories.
15Can American Metabolic Laboratories file an insurance reimbursement claim for me?
Yes. Please enclose a copy of your insurance card (front and back), insured’s D.O.B. and relation to patient (if not the patient), and payment for the filing fee.
